High School Baseball: Saturday, May 10, 2003 By Jerome Michaels Another year has arrived to welcome the South Jersey Baseball Coaches Association's Diamond Classic Tournament celebrating its 30th anniversary. Sixteen teams will compete for the championship that will be held this year at Campbell's Field in Camden. Before that can happen, games will be played at Washington Township High School, Maple Shade High School and Rowan University during the first round. The Shawnee Renegades were one of those teams hosting Paul VI in Washington Township. The Renegades exploded in the second inning to easily defeat the Eagles by a 7-1 margin. They will now face the winner of the Bishop Eustace against Florence game. |
High School Softball: Thursday, May 8, 2003 By Crystal Parker These two teams met earlier in the season with Haddon Township coming away with the victory against Haddon Heights. The second time around always helps a team to get use to the pitcher and team they are going up against. Both teams were successful getting the ball on the bat and scoring runs in this Colonial Conference match up at Haddon Township High School. Heights would hold an early lead, but the bats would come alive for Township as they stormed past the Lady Garnets by a 14-9 margin. |

High School Baseball: Wednesday, May 7, 2003 By Jerome Michaels It was a chance for Holy Cross to create some space between them and the second place team chasing them in the Burlington County Liberty Division. The baseball team from Rancocas Valley was that team traveling to Delran looking to make up some ground late in the season. Their efforts would come up short, as the Lancers were able to stay one step ahead of Rancocas Valley. Holy Cross was able to push across three more runs than the ever-so-dangerous Red Devils. After seven innings, the Lancers walked away with a 5-2 all-important victory. |
High School Softball: Wednesday, May 7, 2003 By Susan Hall Leading a division is never an easy task as opposing teams sometimes have a higher emotional edge going into a big game. Pennsville had a two game lead over Gloucester City High School in the Tri-County Conference Classic Division. The Lady Eagles were looking to get back on a winning streak they had established early this season. But the momentum was definitely in Gloucester's favor as they were able to score three runs in the sixth inning. With their 3-1 win, the Lady Lions moved one step closer with the regular season winding down. |
High School Softball: Tuesday, May 6, 2003 By Crystal Parker It seemed as if this game would never end with both opposing pitchers having their way through seven innings. Pennsville’s Jaime Carlson and Gloucester Catholic’s Brianne Tobin were able to maintain a scoreless tie up until the ninth inning when finally someone scored that illusive winning run. With Linda Hahn at third base and one out, Gloucester Catholic’s Desiree Wilson laid down a suicide squeeze bunt towards the mound. Hahn would slide in safely scoring the eventually game winning run. The Rams would tack on a few more runs to preserve their 4-0 victory. |
