Post 56/Weyman Photography Team Preview Sunday, April 21, 2002 By Tina Schaefer Way to start the season for the American Legion Post 56/Weyman Photography 2002 Men's Softball team winning both games today against American. This is the 3rd year for the men in the Prime Time League, Division A. Bob Labinski and Joe Krauss members of the Post will be coaching this year's team. Their home field is located at the new Lindenwold High School and games are played on Sundays. |
Event Spotlight: Syracuse Ends Phantoms' Season Sunday, April 21, 2002 By Mike Williams Down two games to none to the Syracuse Crunch in the opening round of the Calder Cup playoffs, the objectives for the Phantoms were quite clear on Sunday night. In order to avoid a first-round sweep, the Phantoms would have to beat Syracuse goaltender Jean-Francois Labbe. In order to win the best-of-five series, the Phantoms would have to beat Labbe three times in four nights. |
High School Softball: Audubon Wins Battle of the Conferences Tournament Saturday, April 20, 2002 By Crystal Parker There were only four teams remaining in this tournament, and each team had the confidence that they would be the winner. When Overbrook, Audubon, Rancocas Valley and Holy Cross took the field Saturday morning at Overbrook Senior High, these girls had their sites on making it to the championship if they played a complete game. After Rancocas Valley and Overbrook were eliminated in the semi-finals in extra innings, Audubon's Candace O'Donnell led a team effort in capturing a 9-1 victory over Holy Cross. |
High School Baseball: Sterling Remains Undefeated, Shuts Out Haddon Heights Friday, April 19, 2002 By Art Redd It has been a successful start for Sterling this season with the Silver Knights baseball program. Coach Chris Carpenter has watched his team execute flawless baseball during their 7-0 start. Pitching has been the key to their success. Today it was Karl Beckett's turn on the mound and he continued his winning ways recording his third win of the season. Sterling won this rain shortened game over Haddon Heights by a 3-0 score. |
South Jersey Soccer: TBAA Titans Soccer Team are South American U9 Champs Friday, April 19, 2002 SJSports TBAA Special Correspondent Needing a win or tie to clinch the championship against the Warriors, Brian Cullen scored a late goal in the second half as the Titans rallied from a 3-1 deficit and came away with a 3-3 tie and the championship in the U9 class. The Titans scored the only goal of the first half as David Bannan scored in the games first five minutes to stake the Titans to a 1-0 lead. With the Warriors mounting a constant attack, Titan goalkeeper Evan Buck was outstanding in goal, including an incredible save on a penalty shot to keep the Titans in front heading into the second half. |
High School Girls Lacrosse: Zucconi and Wolverton Lead Holy Cross Over Northern Burlington Thursday, April 18, 2002 By Gary Steiner Unseasonably hot weather greeted the Lady Greyhounds of Northern Burlington as they visited the Lady Lancers of Holy Cross. The Lady Greyhounds (2-3) were struggling in their first year of lacrosse play, and were hoping to show some improvement against the 3-2 Lady Lancers. The heat took its toll on both teams, but it was the hot play of Kelly Wolverton and Kristin Zucconi that led Holy Cross to an 11-5 victory. |

High School Baseball: The Long Ball Helps Sterling Shutout Woodbury Monday, April 15, 2002 By Art Redd Starting pitcher Andy Meyers for Sterling didn't have to wait long to see his team give him an early lead against Woodbury. Mike Reagle blasted a two run homer in the second inning and Dave Cogan drilled a pitch over the left field fence in the third to allow Meyers to breeze through the Thundering Herd lineup. The Silver Knights relief pitching preserved the 10-0 victory at Woodbury High School. |
