High School Football: Francks and Smith Gives Shawnee Well Deserved Win Saturday, October 27, 2001 By Vincent Lewis Trying to find a place to park in Mount Holly was a difficult task if you were planning to attend the football game at the newly named Coach Bill Gordon Stadium. With the homecoming festivities planned at halftime, the fans lined up on both sides of the field for this Olympic Conference match up between Shawnee and the Red Devils from Rancocas Valley High School. Every attempt was made to stop Shawnee from spoiling Rancocas Valley's homecoming celebrations, but on this day Adam Francks put on a show that led his team to the 35-10 victory. |
High School Volleyball: Fifth Annual Junior Varsity Volleyball Tournament Held at Cherry Hill East Saturday, October 27, 2001 By John Daglian Cherry Hill East High School hosted their fifth annual Junior Varsity Volleyball tournament on Saturday October 27th. Sixteen teams from 11 schools would participate in this year's event. As the girl's season concludes this week, this type of tournament gives the younger players a tremendous opportunity to gain valuable experience. The format divided the teams into three pools. Two pools had five teams and one pool had six teams. Each team would play the other teams in their pool twice. The teams with the best records in each pool would advance to the semi-finals. Additionally, the team with the best second place record would be given the final semi-final spot. |
South Jersey Soccer: Hurricanes Revenge Loss With Shutout Saturday, October 27, 2001 By Bob Stuart In the first game of the soccer season, the Berlin Township Hurricanes were beaten by the Washington Township Charge 2-0. The score did not reflect who dominated in the game. The Hurricanes out shot the Charge 12 to 4, but just could not put the ball into the back of the net. This week's game had a different ending. The Hurricanes started the game down one player when some of the team didn't show up on time. Coach Williams was not happy about this, but had to get his players ready. |
High School Football: Overbrook Greets Timber Creek With Shutout Saturday, October 27, 2001 By Vincent Lewis This was the return of Coach Harvey Miller back at the school which he had established a winning record for seven years. This time, Miller entered the playing field through the visitor's entrance followed by his new team the Timber Creek Chargers. Overbrook Senior High was his opponent instead of the school which he led to an impressive 12-0 record in 1998. The Rams were the ones creating a new chapter as they shutout Timber Creek 27-0 in an Olympic Conference game. |

High School Soccer: Cherry Hill East Girls Bounce Back Against Pennsauken Monday, October 22, 2001 By Forrest Robleto The Cougars (11-1-1) were bruised by the loss at Triton but came back to blank the Pennsauken Indians by the score of 8-0. Christine Mullin scored three goals and had two assists, followed by Lauren Kraemer with two goals and an assist, and Brittany Kaplan with a goal and an assist. Shana Herman and Dana DiBruno rounded out the scoring. Jessica Young had two assists and Amanda Kravtitz had one. |
High School Ice Hockey: Eastern Out Fox-ed By Clearview Monday, October 22, 2001 By Mike Costantino Gunnar Fox tallied twice and added an assist as Clearview held off Eastern 7-4 and remains undefeated this season. Fox opened the scoring in the opening minute as he broke in with John Probe on a 2-on-1. After Probe made the defenseman commit he slid the puck to Fox who deposited it into the empty net. Just over two minutes later Fox led another odd man rush and his slap shot from just inside the blue line went in off goaltender Manny Rayo's glove and it was 2-0. |
