High School Football: Eastern Easily Rolls Past Bishop Eustace Saturday, September 8, 2001 By Vincent Lewis The Eastern Vikings traveled to their season opener in massive numbers when they visited Bishop Eustace Prep. What looked liked an endless number of white, blue and maroon uniforms, coach Dan Spittal lined up his team on the visitors sideline in intimidating fashion. Eastern had their way early in this game by scoring on three big plays from scrimmage to put the game away. Alex Goyins scored those first three touchdowns and Anthony Orio scored twice in the second half to give the Vikings a 42-14 win on the road. |
High School Football: Salem Starts Season Off With A Convincing Win Saturday, September 8, 2001 By Vincent Lewis The residents of Salem County were finally seeing improvements being made to their community with the construction of a new water tower. With that addition, the area would be better served providing necessary relief to the community. There was also a football team ready to improve on last year's record with changes of their own. The Salem Rams started their football season with the defense and offensive attack against Granville Charter in a non-league meeting. The Rams were not very hospitable hosts to Granville's first high school football game as they shut out their opponent 63-0. |
High School Soccer: Delsea Captures Highland Kickoff Tournament Saturday, September 8, 2001 By Vince Nestore The soccer season got underway for some of the area schools with the two day Highland Kickoff Tournament at Highland High School in Blackwood. The boy's championship match featured the Delsea Crusaders against the Rancocas Valley Red Devils. The Championship game was a very intense game with most being played at midfield. The Crusaders defeated Rancocas by a 3-2 margin. |
High School Football: Winslow Township Earns Shutout In School's First Football Game Saturday, September 8, 2001 By Lee Tomasello The "new" Winslow Township High School's Eagles football team started its first football season today with a shutout against Pine Hill's Overbrook High School. Winslow, formally known as Edgewood, were beginning a new chapter for the 2001-2002 season. The Eagles won with a 19-0 score in this non-league Olympic Conference game for both teams. |
High School Football: Washington Township Wins Home Opener Friday, September 7, 2001 By Vincent Lewis Finally, teammates could stop beating up on one another getting ready for their 2001 football season. The first game on their schedule was now upon them as the Camden Panthers traveled to Washington Township to take on the Minutemen. It was now time to see if those long hours on the practice field would result in a well played game. Washington Township gave the home crowd a lot to cheer for and the Panthers leaving the game scratching their heads as the Minutemen trounced the Camden 56-6. |
High School Field Hockey: Moorestown Starts Season With 2-0 Defeat of Holy Cross Friday, September 7, 2001 By Charlie Barker Moorestown continued its undefeated streak in the Burlington County Liberty Division by defeating Holy Cross 2-0 in their season opener. The two teams fought to a 0-0 tie in the first half, but the Lady Quakers were able to put it away in the second with goals by Jesse Lacontora and Aurora Grossman. Goalie Joanna Roberts provided the shutout performance for Moorestown. |
