On the day when the Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trailblazers were fighting it out in game seven, the Atlantic City Seagulls and Washington Congressionals of the USBL were gettin' it on. Throughout the game, the Seagulls played with an intensity that was noticeable from the open tip. Raphael Edwards was a man amongst boys. He went over, around and on a couple of occasions through defenders with impunity. On his way to a box score that was pretty decent, he finished with 28 points 10 rebounds and 6 assists. The man truly came to play. It would be easy to think that on this day it was a one-man operation, but there were several guys that played major parts in the victory.

Rightly so, because the big southpaw with the blazing fastball and crackling curve had just accomplished a feat that no area hurler had ever done. He ended up averaging 1.98 strikeouts per inning in his senior season.

Riverside, familiar with being in the Group 1 finals, was looking for another trophy to add to their school's trophy cabinet. But the Panthers had other plans as they stunned the Rams in convincing fashion with a 13-1 victory.

The highly regarded Camden Catholic softball team had everything going their way during their successful 2000 season. Behind their ace pitcher Sarah O'Malley, they had tabulated an impressive 24-3 record. Standing in their way to a South Jersey Parochial A title were the Gloucester Catholic Lady Rams. To everyone's surprise, outfielder Desiree Wilson made an amazing catch in the outfield and doubled off the runner at second to preserve a 1-0 victory over the Irish in nine innings.
