South Jersey Soccer: Saturday, November 28, 1998

On Saturday, November 28, four teams made up the U7-U8 division for Soccer International's 2nd Annual Turkey Shootout. The teams consisted of Haddon Heights, Mt. Laurel, and two teams from Berlin Township (one boys and one girls). Each team played 3 games at Soccer City, located on Rt. 73 in Winslow Township, New Jersey.

Holy Cross and Moorestown were tied atop the Burlington County Library Division. Their traditional Thanksgiving Day game was move to Saturday due to divisional playoffs. The intensity of this rivalry showed, as strange penalties and strange plays showed poor judgment on both sides of the field. Holy Cross may have won this one, 48-28 over the Quakers, but both teams should be embarrassed by their behavior.

The traditional Thanksgiving games for South Jersey high school football continued on Saturday. The Deptford Spartans hosted the Gloucester Catholic Rams in a Tri-County Royal Divisional game. With the Spartans playing next Saturday in the Group 2 finals against Gloucester City, this would be a tune-up game. But, it was not an easy game for them, as the Rams gave the Spartans all they could handle. Deptford broke a 7 all tie late in the fourth quarter to finally defeat the Rams 14-7.
