Cherry Hill East had a problem with their bus and arrived late to the game. They didn't get a chance to touch the ball before the game and faced an explosive start from West Deptford. East was able to weather the early onslaught and in a toe to toe match-up found themselves two opportunities to West Deptford's one.

South Jersey Modified League: Wednesday, September 2, 1998

The South Jersey Modified League has crowned a team that has shown many ways to capture a title. This team has used speed, aggressiveness and pitching to take home the championship trophy. The Silver won their third consecutive SJML Title with a 13-2 victory over Metal Plex at Runnemede Beaver Branch Park, winning the series three games to one. The number one ranked team in the 1998 playoffs got to the finals by defeating ATL and Nipper's Nuts. Metal Plex was impressive by defeating Jay's Elbow Room and MHC Thunder. However, the Silver was not finished capturing titles.

High School Ice Hockey: Wednesday, September 2, 1998
By Rick Murro Opening Night for the Washington Township Ice Hockey Club will be on Friday, September 18th at the Hollydell Ice Rink in Sewell, NJ. The opening game will feature the Washington Township JVB team facing off against the Archbishop Ryan JVB club at 5:30 p.m. The second game will be the newly formed Township JV League team against the Ryan JV squad.
Township is very excited about competing in the highly competitive SJHSIHL JV league this year. This will be a challenge for our players as well as very exciting hockey for the fans. Starting time for this game will be at 7:15 p.m.

This is where it all begins. The practice week! It involves the excitement of a new beginning. Ironing out the wrinkles in your game plan, meeting your new coach or just getting ready to continue where your team left off last season with that winning attitude. "The majority of the starters are juniors," Cherry Hill East coach Lee Troutman mentioned. "I think everybody was rather surprised by us last year. No one bothered to pay attention to [the team] we had or [the players] we had until it was too late." Coach Lee Troutman sees an interesting season ahead for a strong team in the Olympic American division.

Cherry Hill East tied for second last year with West Windsor-Plainsboro. Eastern finished first. This year Dave Gurst, the coach, sees a team with both size and depth and thirteen returning starters. "I don't say we are the best team, but if they play their game they can play with anybody", states Gurst.

Boys Soccer Preview: Monday, August 31, 1998
By Brian Croly The Wildcats are returning from their best season in school history. They won the league title for the first time in the 26 years of the schools existence. Their record was 16-3-2 and they made it to the South Jersey Group 1 Finals. The team set many school records including most wins, most goals scored, fewest goals against, and most shutouts (10) to name a few.
The team faces new challenges this season. They have lost 9 lettermen and return only 4 starters. Two of the starters, Jason Kufta and Bill Burke are beginning their fourth season on the Varsity team.
